The Gdańsk Nowe Południe project was presented during the MIPIM investment fair in Cannes, France, one of the most important real estate industry events in Europe. During the event, InvestGDA, the Pomeranian Development Agency, and the City of Gdańsk presented the investment potential of the areas along the planned Southern Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway line.
The MIPIM fair attracts thousands of representatives from cities, investors, and companies from all over the world every year. It is also an opportunity for local governments to present new investment projects. During this year's edition, on March 11, representatives of Gdańsk and Pomerania presented the Gdańsk Nowe Południe project to investors.
The aim was to showcase the investment opportunities in the area covered by the master plan, which includes 164 hectares of land, including 30 hectares of new investment land, where approximately 15,000 new residents can live and around 5,000 jobs can be created.
In the first part of the meeting, Emilia Lodzińska, Deputy Mayor of Gdańsk for spatial development and housing, and Piotr Grzelak, Deputy Mayor of Gdańsk for sustainable development and economy, spoke about the project.
"Gdańsk has a vision, but also determination in action. We have ambitious plans for the development of the southern districts of Gdańsk," said Piotr Grzelak. "Therefore, we are investing in infrastructure that makes the city function: in public spaces, services, public transport, which we treat as the foundation of sustainable urban development. PKM Południe is a key element of this strategy and is intended to change the accessibility of the southern districts of the city. The Gdańsk Nowe Południe project is a long-term commitment to shaping livable districts, but also to creating favorable investment conditions.".
Emilia Lodzińska said that investors' perspective is important for the city: "We care about the coordinated development of this part of the city. We know that only cooperation between residents, companies, and investors can bring good solutions.".
During the meeting, the approach to developing the areas around future railway stations and the role of the master plan in reducing investment risks and increasing the predictability of the area's development were also presented.
"We see PKM Południe as the urban spine of the southern part of Gdańsk," noted Michał Jamroż, project manager at InvestGDA/ARP. "It is not only a transport skeleton but also a spatial framework, thanks to which future development can be organized in a much more coherent way.".
As emphasized during the meeting, the project is pioneering in Poland.
"This is the first project of its kind in Poland where the planning of the surrounding area's development is carried out in parallel with the preparations for the construction of a new railway line," noted Paweł Orłowski, president of InvestGDA. "Transparency is of key importance to investors. The master plan will respond to this need.".
The master plan is being created in an open process, with the participation of stakeholders, including residents, entrepreneurs, and public institutions, as part of social consultations and dialogue with the market.
