Public consultations on the Gdańsk Nowe Południe master plan are starting. Residents of Gdańsk – especially those in districts along the planned PKM Południe railway line – will have the opportunity to express their views on the project on March 9, 12, 17, and 19. The aim of the consultations is to gather the needs and proposals of residents and businesses, which will form the basis of the urban concept.
The public consultations initiate the participatory process within the framework of the master plan work. On Monday, March 9, at 5:00 PM, an opening (informational) meeting will be held at the Primary School in Kowale with the participation of city authorities, focusing on the project's assumptions and the principles and schedule of further work. Immediately after, at 5:30 PM on the same day, the first of four workshops will begin, led by moderators, focused on gathering the needs and proposals of residents and users of the area.
The master plan is a document that will define the development directions for the areas located along the planned Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna Południe line. At this stage, it is crucial to understand the expectations of the local community and the users of this area.
– This is not only a project for a new railway line, but also planning for the development of its surroundings, to which we want to invite residents and business representatives – says Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. – Public consultations allow us to incorporate local needs at the planning stage, so that a convenient, dense, and accessible city is created for everyday life. PKM Południe will connect the southern districts of Gdańsk with the metropolis and the region, and the master plan will ensure that the development of these areas is coherent, thoughtful, and long-term.
– The Gdańsk Nowe Południe master plan is a tool that allows us to plan the city's development in a responsible and long-term manner – says Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of Gdańsk. – Public consultations are an important element of this process, as they guarantee that residents' voices will be taken into account at the stage of formulating assumptions, not only when decisions are already made.
The participatory process covers the areas covered by the master plan, located along the planned PKM line.
– We want the master plan to respond to the real needs of residents and entrepreneurs – explains Michał Jamroż, project manager at InvestGDA/ARP. – This is the moment when we gather experiences, problems, and ideas. They will be the starting point for further design work.
Public consultations are an important element of the planning process, which is intended to ensure the coherent, sustainable development of the southern districts of Gdańsk, linked with public transport.

Organizers ensure accessibility for people with disabilities, including the presence of a sign language interpreter, as well as childcare during meetings.
Geo-survey and analyses
Parallel to the meetings, an online geo-survey will be launched, allowing for the submission of proposals remotely. The geo-survey will be available from March 2nd to March 22nd, and the link and QR code will be shared on the project website and in informational materials.
At the same time, the project team is conducting analyses regarding the possible scale of development, functional layout, and the demand for public services such as education, healthcare, and green spaces. Previous works by the Gdańsk Development Bureau also form the basis of these efforts.
– We are starting the diagnosis stage, which aims to understand the local context and social expectations – comments Monika Arczyńska, director of the A2P2 architecture & planning studio. – A city cannot be built without the voice of its residents. The collected feedback will allow us to prepare the initial urban planning assumptions, and in the next stage, we will return to discussing specific design solutions.
